Youth With A Mission was started so that young people could pursue their God-given callings.
It is this vision of the waves of young people going from every nation to every nation that began this global movement of Christians dedicated to loving and serving Jesus throughout the world.
Since 1960 our purpose has been to know God and to make Him known. We go to where the Gospel is not, serve in remote places, pioneer ministries among the outcasts, because of the love of God for all who are made in His image.
We reach out in 180+ countries through three main areas — Evangelism, Training and Mercy Ministry. Rather than a centralised agency, we function as a family of ministries covering every sphere of society, from ship- based medical care, to performing arts teams; Bible training programs to sports ministries and anti- trafficking work. Our global family of over 20,000 workers is held together by shared purpose, vision, values and relationship.

story of gateway
Ever since our very first DTS in 1980, our schools were held in various rented premises until we had our first property at Lorong 9 Geylang in 1996. As we grew in size, we were again scattered and moved from property to property for many years until 2009, when we found a place in Geylang big enough to house our schools, office and community ‘under one roof’. This was a turning point for YWAMSG as we started to become a community, doing life together, and it was then we started to gain a heart for our neighbours in Geylang. During a prayer time in 2012 we felt God ask us a question: “If Jesus had a house in Geylang, what would he do with the house?”
In 2018, an offer was brought to us, to move out of Geylang into a bigger property that could fit our growing community and our ministries and training.
But when the community came together to pray about this decision, what we heard was “First learn to be a family, then I will give you a home”.
Little did we know that the offer did not go through soon after. At that time a unique opportunity opened up, with the 2 shophouses adjacent to our YWAM residence on Lorong 9 Geylang being put up for sale at the same time! We knew we couldn’t afford it, but our whole base went before the Lord again. And we sensed the Lord saying to stay put in Geylang and trust Him to provide.
So began an epic faith journey, with lots of prayer and miracle after miracle, even in the most impossible of times (a global pandemic). The YWAM Gateway became so much more than a building project. It was a process of learning to host the presence of the Lord for the sake of revealing who He is to the nations!
